How to Setup Your New Domain Name with The Open Church

Choose your Domain Name provider:

  1. Go Daddy

  1. Log into your account at www.godaddy.com.
  2. On left side of the page under Domains, click on Domain Manager.
  3. Click on the domain you want to edit.
  4. In the middle page click the link Total DNS Control and MX Records.
  5. The page will have all the Go Daddy default in it.  If you do not plan to use any Go Daddy services, just delete everything.
  6. If you plan to use the Open Church exclusively add A Record: Host Name: @, IP: see your sign up email; else go to next step.
  7. Add CNAME aliases as needed.  The A Record covers the address example.com, if you want have additional addresses like www.example.com or openchurch.example.com you need to add a CNAME.  Example CNAME: Alias: www, Host Name: openchurch#.interstellar-tech.com (see sign up e-mail for number).
  8. If you plan to use the Open Church for your e-mail on the domain then you'll need to add a Mail Exchange record.  Add the follow:  Priority 0, host: @, address: smtp#.interstellar-tech.com (see sign up e-mail).  Add both the primary and secondary mail servers from your sign up e-mail.
  9. When your done you can logout.  Changes may take up to 48 hours to propagate through the internet, but our experience is that usually changes occur in less than 24 hours.
